Adding Color to a Historic Terminal
Situated halfway between the central business and tourism areas of both Orange and Los Angeles Counties, the Long Beach Airport features a main historic Streamline Moderne terminal that greets visitors to one of the world's busiest airport in terms of general aviation activity.
Proud of its aviation heritage, Long Beach city officials wanted to add customizable dynamic color to the outside of the airport terminal for holidays, special events, and local sports teams. The city found the lighting solution, Flex Tube SE RGB, just down the street from Acclaim Lighting, based in Los Angeles. Approximately 530 feet of Flex Tube was installed on the top and bottom edges of the main historic terminal. Flex Tube SE RGB is a side-emitting, outdoor-rated, flexible LED tube with RGB LEDs to cover nearly every possible color combination for virtually any exterior lighting application.
The new lighting system is easily controlled and changed with a DMX system for precise dimming and programming options. To the enjoyment of the local sports fans, the Long Beach Airport main terminal was quickly highlighted by purple and yellow colors immediately after the Lebron and the Los Angeles Lakers delivered the NBA championship.
